I was watching HGTV’s Beyond the Box today (interesting show, lousy website) and they mentioned a product called Plyboo.  It’s a plywood type material in that it’s made up of strips of bamboo but as a finished product it’s essentially a hard wood – used for flooring, paneling, construction and veneers.  Bamboo grows like a weed which makes it a great alternative to exotic hardwoods and a formaldehyde free and FSC certified type of Plyboo is available.

Additionally, it’s a very attractive material.
